Early in her career, Daphne created several prints although there does not seem to be many in circulation today.
I would venture to say that this print is in the original frame which is likely how the vibrant colors have endured.
Daphne Odjig was the only female member of the Indian Group of Seven that initially made up the new Eastern Woodlands School of Canadian art. She stood out from the men in the group, in that her images were most often emphasizing womanhood and family as opposed to native spirituality. This professionally framed serigraph is dated 1979. On the back is the original certificate of authentication of edition: by Canadian Native Prints Ltd. Vancouver, BC. The printers mark is bottom right under the date. Daphne has been honored and achieved many awards, commissions, and credits. She has also shown in individual and group exhibitions too numerous to mention and her work is sought internationally by many collectors. Daphne`s earlier works are difficult to find and this one is a nice example.
Please note: picture will be sent without frame.
