    Description

A very valuable old floating device for an old original Inuit skin kayak.
The float is called an avatak. It is made out of skin and sowed together with threads and waterproofed with animal fat.  It is attached by rope to a harpoon so the hunted animal would be kept afloat - it was attached to the front piece of the spear with leather thread and as a "skin ballon" kept the prey afloat in the water.
