    Description

Superb vintage signed Northwest Coast Native American carved and painted cedar raven rattle with stand.  Signed on the bottom of the stand:  Tim Paul - West Coast Raven Rattle - 1984.  Tim Paul is from the Nuu-chah-nulth (Hesquiaht) tribe and is a preeminent artist from Esperanza Inlet on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.  He has held the position of First Carver at Victoria, B.C.'s Royal British Columbia Museum where he oversaw numerous commissions for totem poles for international sites such as Wakefield Park and Yorkshire Park in England, Stanley Park in Vancouver, B.C. and in Auckland, New Zealand.  He left this position to oversee a program focussing on Native education for the Port Alberni School Board and Vancouver Island.  The rattle and stand measures 14" long x 5 7/8" wide x 6 1/2" high overall.  Tim Paul's  works can be seen in high end Galleries featuring renowned artists.  The raven is the most important of all creatures to the Northwest Coast people and is known as the transformer who created the world.  The raven also symbolizes creation, prestige and knowledge.  Has the typical signs of use, otherwise in good condition.  A wonderful example of North West Coast Native American carving by an acclaimed artist.
